Lifeguard Recertification: Stay Current with the ALA

Being a lifeguard is a serious responsibility that requires ongoing training to maintain skills. As the summer season gets underway, the American Lifeguard Association wants to remind all guards of the importance of keeping certifications up to date through recertification courses. Proper training is key to ensuring the highest levels of aquatic safety at beaches and pools in our community.

Why Recertify?

Certifications for lifeguards typically last one to three years depending on the organization. Over time, rescues techniques, first aid protocols, and safety recommendations can evolve. recertifying ensures your knowledge and abilities remain aligned with current industry standards. It also demonstrates to your employer your commitment to professional development in your important role.

ALA Recent Options

We have made the lifeguard recertification process simple through the ALA. Courses are offered monthly at various locations from June through August. Choose between half-day or full-day classes depending on your schedule. All classes are capped at 12 students to allow for hands-on skill practice. Upon completion, guards will receive documentation of their recertification, which is accepted nationwide.

Cost-Effective Training

The ALA aims to make continued training affordable. With our reasonable recertification fees, maintaining your certification costs far less than repeating a full certification course from scratch if you let it expire. We also offer discounts for guards recertifying multiple certifications at once with the ALA.

Keep Your Skills Sharp

While recertifying fulfills the requirement to maintain active certification status, we view it as more than just a check box. Our instructors focus on drills and scenarios to help guards refine techniques and strategies. It’s an opportunity to practice under the expert eye of veteran lifeguards to identify areas for improvement as well.

Stay at the Forefront

NYC Lifeguarding who recertify with the ALA gain access to the latest developments and recommended changes coming out of national conferences and safety organization meetings. We aim to pass this expert knowledge to you directly so you can stay at the forefront of your field with the most up-to-date protocols.

Protect Those You Serve

Ultimately, recertification through our programs allows you to renew your commitment to safety while strengthening your abilities. Taking the time each year to enhance skills protects not only your career but, most importantly, the beach and pool visitors you are entrusted to oversee. Their protection is always our top priority at the ALA.
